Paula Deen’s Sweet, Sour and Spicy Ham and Sausage Balls

A great game day or any day appetizers. Made and served in the slow cooker.

Serves: 5
Cook Time: 1.5 Hours

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound Smithfield ham, cooked and ground
  • 1/2 pound Paula Deen Breakfast Sausage roll (we used mild)
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon of milk
  • 1/2 cup sweet and sour sauce
  • 1/2 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 1/3 cup pineapple juice or apricot nectar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Steps

In a medium mixing bowl combine ground ham and sausage. Add egg, bread crumbs and milk. Mix well. Shape mixture into 20-25 cocktail size meatballs and place on a foil lined baking tray. Bake for 10-15 minutes until meatballs are cooked through. While meatballs are baking, stir together the remaining ingredients in the slow cooker. Drain any excess fat from meatballs and place in slow cooker with sauce. Gently stir to coat the meatballs. Cover and cook on a low setting for 2 hours or a high setting for 1 hour.
