Sweetheart Ham & Mushroom Pizza Pies

Sweetheart Ham & Mushroom Pizza Pies

For Valentine's Day, my husband and I have little tradition... homemade pizza. Mmmm! Something about melted cheese and tomato and smoky ham.. it's perfect for indulging on this lovely holiday. Can you think of a better way to celebrate with your valentine than heart-shaped homemade pizza pies? It's a really cute way to make your dinner-for-two a romantic affair, in a fun and casual way. It's even more fun if you make them together! You could make this meal as fancy as you like (think candlelight), or if you want to, feel free to do as we do: take your pizzas to the couch while you share a bottle of rootbeer and watch a good movie. For us, that is a real romantic dinner. Happy Valentine's Day!

By the way, this is my favorite recipe for homemade pizza crust!

Individual Ham & Mushroom Pizzas

  • Smithfield Hickory Smoked or Honey Ham, sliced into small pieces for topping
  • 2 to 3 mushrooms, sliced into small pieces for topping
  • 1 green onion, diced
  • 1 cup of crushed tomatoes or your favorite pizza sauce
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • Crust

  • 3/4 cup + 2 Tablespoons milk, warmed
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil, plus extra for bottom of pan
  • 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) yeast
  • 2 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Warm milk in microwave about 30 seconds. In mixer bowl, combine warm milk with honey. Dissolve yeast in this mixture for 5 minutes. Stir in the 2 Tablespoons olive oil. Sift together flour and salt and add to mixer bowl. Use a dough hook to combine and knead dough until it pulls away from sides and bottom of mixer bowl. Dough should be easy to handle and just slightly sticky. Place dough in a greased bowl and let rise for 20 minutes until puffy and slightly risen. While you wait, coat baking pan with olive oil and sprinkle with oregano and garlic salt, or your favorite seasonings. Heat oven to 400°. Divide risen dough in fourths and shape into hearts. Place crusts on prepared pan, set in a warm place, and let rise 20 minutes. After crust has risen 2nd time, top with sauce, cheese, ham, etc. Bake for 20 minutes on the bottom rack. After pizza is baked, brush hot crust with butter and serve warm!
