Making Back To School Mornings A Breeze
Let's face it, school mornings can be a stressful time for everyone, but with a little preparation, they don't have to be. I'll be the first to admit, our school mornings aren't 100% bliss all the time, but with a few tips I'll share today, they can certainly go a bit smoother :)
First things first.....preparation the night before is key! If there is one thing I've learned it is get organized the night before. When at all possible, I get my boys involved in making their lunches. The night before, we'll head into the kitchen and pack lunches together. The boys go into the lunch cabinet and pick out their favorite snacks and drink while I make the sandwiches. Bags folded over, names written, placed into the fridge and done!
Once lunches are made we head into the bedroom to pick out clothes. What a time saver this is. For some reason if we don't pick out clothes the night before, we get so behind in the mornings. Never fails that someone is either missing a sock or can't find a shirt, so this is a must for us.
Next, we get our backpacks out and placed right by the front door (we have learned the hard way here...I've made many trips back to the school to take backpacks we've forgotten)
We typically wake up about an hour and a half before school, enjoy a quick breakfast of cereal and fruit and the boys usually even have time to play before heading out to school.
These simple yet completely effective tips have made our mornings run much smoother than they used to.
Best of luck to all the kiddos starting back at school and to the parents getting back into the swing of things :)

What’s in the sandwiches :) That’s my only delimma!
Great tips for families with school-aged kids! Organization is so important.
fab post! it’s so important to have a plan and be organized with it comes to getting out of the house on time. Even before I had children my husband and I worked together, and I would pack our lunch faithfully every day - both a time and money saver - but we would pick our clothes out the night before which definitely saved time thinking things through in the morning - have a glorious day sweet bella!
Great ideas! Can’t believe the summer is over!
We do the same thing here from lunches,to cloths,to bookbags. I get up 2 hours before them and place the sandwiches in their boxes and put them in their book bags. Make a good homemade breakfast and wake them 45 mins before the bus. With 3 kids, I need to be prepped all the time. I am also a Stay at home mom.
I completely agree that organizing lunches, backpacks, and clothes the night before makes the morning go much more smoothly.
ahhh I think ill tell u my comment in person ;)
Great tips, Jenny!
My two top tricks:
(1) Waking up a half-hour before my kids to get the day started right
(2) Packing lunches the night before. Totally makes ALL the difference!
Happy Back-to-School to you!
Just stopping by to give you a shout out! I love your blog and easy recipes. Keep up the GREAT work:)
I myself don’t eat sandwiches from yesterday - they tend to get so soggy! I always make them in the morning - but know in advance what I’m going to make.
My kids also don’t eat snacks in school and drink only water. A lot healthier!
Great tips for making sure mornings are nice and calm once school starts up again!
The biggest struggle I’ve had over the years is to keep my kids moving in the mornings. As soon as I turn my back they’re laying around or trying to watch TV. So I have checklists of everything they need to do in the morning (make bed, get dressed, brush teeth, practice, etc.) that I’ve laminated and they use a dry erase marker to check it off. This helps so much and keeps me from nagging.
OH...they always look so little on the first day of school!
Thanks for the tips! Packing lunches the night before is a MUST, as is laying out clothes. School for my kiddos begins shortly after 7 AM, so these morning time savers are life savers for us!
I can’t believe it is back to school time. Very helpful post!
